Celebrating Life Under A Tree Canopy

Inventorying the Future Forest

Posted by Heather Kepran on 7/14/2009 in dam

With volunteers from the Guelph Field Naturalists, we've been busy inventorying the plants that call the lands of the Plant an Old Growth Forest Project home (May 2009).

Significant finds include:

  • nodding trillium Trillium cernuum
  • sedge species Carax formosa;
  • significant sized butternut Juglans cinerea
  • very large hop hornbeam Ostrya virginiana
  • some large trees would indicate they are quite old for this area
  • pop bottle from mid 1940s

your avatar How many species of plants did you manage to catalog? I would very interested to know what the final summary. A pop bottle from the 1940's? Wow! That's amazing.
