Getting Involved
We welcome your participation through the use and enjoyment of the trails which traverse the existing woodlands and open spaces. Over the years you’ll begin to see the changes leading to the future forest. For more information about the trails at the Ignatius Jesuit Centre, please visit the Sacred Land section of the Ignatius Jesuit Centre website.
If you're interested in working to restore and nourish the land and water in the future forest, we would welcome your help in any aspect of our program.
Volunteer
Tell Your StoryDo you have a story to tell about your experience on the lands of the Ignatius Jesuit Centre in Guelph? Perhaps you grew up in the area, and can remember playing in the forest. Perhaps you walk your dog on the land, and have seen unusual or unexpected trees, flowers or wildlife. Perhaps you have a thought as to how the forest should develop over time.
We are looking to past, present and future users of the Plant an Old Growth Forest Project lands to help us build a picture of what the land looked like, how it has changed, and how it should look.
Share with us your stories, thoughts and comments. We will incorporate them into the ongoing history of the land and use them to inform the creation and restoration of the future old growth forest. We would also welcome your photos of the area.
Interested in volunteering to plant and nourish trees, mend trails, clean waterways and more “on–the–ground” activities? Let us put you on the volunteer call–list for when these field activities start.
Our committees support our restoration and education activities. For more information on the committees, contact oldgrowthforest@ignatiusguelph.ca or call 519.824.1250 ext 224.
- Restoration Committee
This group meets monthly to provide guidance and recommendations to the project Steering Committee on the ecological restoration of the Old Growth Forest Projects lands based on their expertise and information received from outside agencies. - Education Committee
This committee will be struck in 2009. It will look at how to incorporate educational opportunities into each step of the restoration process. A wide range ages and interests will considered. If you have an interest or expertise in outdoor or environmental education, consider putting your name forth for this committee.
Share your forest stories and stay up-to-date on project news and events.
